19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging period, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

The player's defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to create a decider.

He rescued four early-game break points in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
